![]() ![]() What is it that we want to destroy in our land? The colonial domination of the tugas. Resistance is the following: to destroy one thing for the sake of constructing another. What follows from this regarding democracy, impartiality and justice? In answering this with reference to some social movements, the article then defends the political potential of conflict, partisan positions, resistance and political change directed towards overcoming domination. This involves a distinction between realistic political theory and realism in political thought where only the latter demands utopian thinking. Yet, reading Sen alongside the ideas of one of Africa's most successful anti-colonial political leaders is revelatory: it provides the basis for the argument that radical realism is most valuable if it is action-guiding, comparative and about context-specific change. Sen's path-breaking work has been transformative for multiple disciplines, not least development. This article compares the ideas of Amílcar Cabral and Amartya Sen on capability, freedom, resistance and political change, thereby revealing the importance of radical realism in political thought and development studies. ![]()

We have caught up to his prophetic vision. ![]() ![]() I think one reason for the eventual reappraisal of Hamilton is that America has grown into the contours of the country of his imagination, not Jefferson’s. ![]() Jefferson represented a more soothing point of view: an America of small towns and traditional agriculture. This was a frightening and sinister vision to a lot of Americans at the time. He envisioned a country built on banks, corporations, stock exchanges and factories. On the other hand, Hamilton had a very modern take on our economic future. And if history is written by the victors, the victor during this era was the Democratic Party. Hamilton’s Federalist Party had disappeared by the start of the 19th century. ![]() What do you notice about that list? Those were the men who were solidly in charge of American politics for many decades after Hamilton’s death. Hamilton’s main political enemies were John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and James Monroe-and I’ll even throw in John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson for good measure. A: I think the fact that he was killed in that duel has something to do with the lack of appreciation it robbed him of the opportunity in later years to write his own defense, or his own history of the events of the early republic. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Merton's interpretation of this concept is insightful and illuminating, highlighting the importance of letting go of our desires and embracing the natural flow of the universe. Wu wei, meaning "non-action" or "effortless action," is a central tenet of Taoist philosophy. Merton's analysis of Chuang Tzu's concept of "wu wei" is particularly noteworthy. The book is both a philosophical treatise and a practical guide, providing readers with insights into the nature of reality and the human condition. ![]() One of the most striking aspects of this work is Merton's ability to distill Chuang Tzu's teachings into clear and concise language, making it accessible to a modern audience. Merton's work is a masterful interpretation of Chuang Tzu's ideas and a valuable addition to the canon of religious and spiritual literature. The Way of Chuang Tzu, authored by the esteemed Thomas Merton, is a profound exploration of the teachings of the ancient Chinese philosopher Chuang Tzu. ![]() ![]() There are so many possibilities here, with her evil father and troubled marriage, I could think of so many reasons someone might want to stalk Phoebe. In fact, the world is even more well developed in here than in either of those series. While it’s set in the same world as Wicked Villains and Sabine Valley, you don’t need to read either of those series to understand the world. But it is actually based entirely in reality. This setting is dark and gritty to the point it feels nearly fantastical. What stood out the most to me in this (beyond the amazing romance) was the unique and interesting twist on Olympus.
